Side by side
| Feature | Asterly | Scribe |
|---|---|---|
| Job | Capture in Chrome, host the guide, invite a small workspace. | Document processes at volume, including beyond the browser. |
| Free plan | 3 guides, public links, mark on exports. | Browser capture and link or embed sharing. Exports are gated. |
| Paid capture | Still Chrome. Pro adds the workspace, unlimited guides, and hosted AI text. | Pro adds desktop and mobile capture, plus PDF, HTML, and Markdown export. |
| In the product UI | Not in the first version. The guide is a page, not a pin on a button. | Pins can attach help to elements in Chromium browsers. |
| Price snapshot | Pro hypothesis: $12 or ₹999 per user each month. No seat minimum. | About $25 for one author, or about $13 a seat with a five-seat minimum, on annual billing. |
| Admin | Invites first. SSO is later, and not sold yet. | SSO and the heavier controls sit on Enterprise. |
Scribe’s product shape is from its public positioning and from independent comparisons checked 19 October 2026, including the 6 October 2026 Scribe vs Tango roundup. Seat prices move. Where Scribe is the serious platform
Day to day, capture feels familiar: an extension watches the workflow and writes a step with a screenshot and generated text. You can rewrite steps and redact screenshots afterward. The product then keeps going. Paid plans capture desktop and mobile apps, which matters the moment the process touches a native ERP or a phone. Pages combine several guides and written sections into one document, which is how handbooks actually get assembled. Comments, branding, and export formats show up as the plan rises. Enterprise is where SSO, SCIM, and the stricter redaction live.
In March 2026 Scribe also described Pins: guides and tips attached to buttons and fields inside a web app, opened from a browser sidebar. That is in-app help, not just a document you send. Asterly is not building that in the first release. If your buyers asked for “help inside Salesforce,” this page should send you back to Scribe or to Tango’s Enterprise plan.
Where a smaller tool is the point
A lot of teams do not have a documentation program. They have a recurring question. “How do I invite someone?” “How do I issue the refund?” “How do I connect Slack?” The honest artifact is six steps and four screenshots. Scribe can produce that, and then the bill assumes you might produce hundreds, across desktop apps, with a seat minimum sized for a department.
Asterly’s price is aimed at the smaller habit. Free is three public guides, enough to learn if anyone opens them. Pro starts at $12 or ₹999 a person, the low end of a band we still have to test, and it is meant to buy unlimited guides, a shared workspace, no watermark, and AI descriptions included. There is no five-seat floor in the hypothesis. There is also no pretend checkout: the number is public so you can decide if the waitlist is worth an email.
What you give up
- No desktop or mobile capture.
- No Pages-style handbook made of many guides.
- No Pins, Sidekick, or other in-app embed in v1.
- No enterprise packet: SSO, SCIM, a DPA, a security review. Those come after design partners, if at all.
- No installed base. Scribe’s templates, integrations, and support already exist. Asterly is early access.
Those are the reasons to keep paying Scribe. The reason to try Asterly is the opposite list: Chrome only, one link, a team that can count its authors on one hand, and a reluctance to buy the platform around the guide.
A practical way to decide
- If any step happens outside Chrome, trial Scribe Pro before you look at a waitlist.
- If viewers must be walked through the live app, read the Tango comparison as well. Pins and Guide Me are a different product from a static guide.
- If the only failure today is “people will not install anything, and I am tired of exporting,” that is the Asterly bet.
Questions
Is Asterly a Scribe alternative?
For one job: recording a browser workflow and sending a link a teammate can open. It is not a replacement for Scribe’s desktop and mobile capture, Pages, or enterprise admin. If that platform is what you bought Scribe for, stay.
Does Scribe already share by link?
Yes. Scribe is a hosted product. The free plan can capture in the browser and share. Paid plans add the exports, desktop and mobile capture, and the heavier collaboration features. Asterly is not “Scribe, but with links.” The link is the whole wedge, at a smaller price, for a smaller product.
Why would anyone leave Scribe?
Many should not. The reason to look is price and scope. Published comparisons in October 2026 put a single Scribe author near $25 a month on annual billing, and the cheaper per-seat price near $13 with a five-seat minimum. A three-person team that only needs Chrome guides can feel that minimum. Confirm the live price before you switch anything.
Can Asterly capture desktop apps?
No. Chrome workflows only, for the first version. Scribe Pro is the product to trial if the process leaves the browser.
