Short version. Choose Tango if people must complete the process inside the live app, or if you need desktop capture now. Choose Asterly if a static, editable, hosted guide is enough and you want a smaller bill. Only Tango exists as a product you can open today.

What you are actually buying with Tango

The free workspace is already a hosted guide product: browser capture, a link, an embed, and a cap of five shared workflows. That overlaps Asterly’s free tier, with a more generous workflow count and a larger free roster. If five guides and ten viewers are enough, Tango’s free plan is a working product and this waitlist is not a reason to wait.

Pro is where Tango leaves “a doc of screenshots.” The pricing page lists unlimited workflows, branded guides and exports, voice and video embeds, browser plus desktop capture, screenshot annotation and blurring, viewer insights, and 14 days of version history. The August 2026 help article adds speaking while you capture, and insight into who viewed a guide and how far they got in Guide Me. A single author pays more per seat than a team of three. Extra Pro users need paid seats.

Enterprise is a different purchase. Automatic PII redaction, branching workflows, translation, Pins, Guide Me, automations, a year of history and audit logs, SSO, SCIM, and workspace analytics. Guide Me is the feature people mean when they say Tango “plays” the process back inside the application. Asterly will not imitate that in the first release. Shipping a lookalike replay badly would be worse than linking to the product that already does it.

The wedge that is left

Some teams do not want a viewer clicked through Salesforce. They want a page they can skim, fix, and send. The new hire reads step two on the train. The customer forwards the link. Nobody installs a desktop recorder, and nobody needs an insight dashboard to prove the guide was opened — though “did a second person open it?” is the only metric Asterly cares about in early access.

That page is also where Tango’s price can feel large. Fifteen to twenty-two dollars a person, billed annually, buys desktop capture and the Pro feature list. Asterly’s $12 or ₹999 hypothesis buys less: Chrome capture, unlimited hosted guides, a workspace, no watermark, and AI descriptions written on our side so you are not pasting an API key into an extension. If you need the things on Tango’s Pro list, the cheaper number is a false saving.

Stay on Tango if

  • Guide Me, Pins, or automations are the reason you are shopping.
  • The workflow leaves the browser. Desktop capture is already on Tango Pro.
  • You need blur now, or automatic PII redaction under a contract.
  • You want viewer analytics, version history, or SSO this quarter.
  • Five free shared workflows solve the problem already. Use them.

Consider the waitlist if

  • The deliverable is a link, and the reader never has to click inside the source app on your behalf.
  • Chrome covers the workflow.
  • You want the price of a small team to start near $12 or ₹999, and you can tolerate a product that is not generally available.
  • You would rather have hosted descriptions than bring your own model key.

Questions

Is Asterly a free Tango alternative?

Partly. Asterly’s free tier is three public guides with a share link, which is fewer guides than Tango’s free workspace and a different limit. Tango’s free plan, as published in October 2026, includes five shared workflows, browser capture, and up to ten people in the workspace. Asterly is not “Tango, but free forever.” Pro is how a team keeps an unlimited library.

Does Asterly include Guide Me?

No. Guide Me, Pins, and automations are how Tango walks someone through the live application, and Tango lists them on Enterprise. Asterly’s first version is a hosted document: steps, screenshots, a link. If the requirement is in-app replay, evaluate Tango, not this waitlist.

How does Tango’s price compare?

Tango’s help center, updated 3 August 2026, says Pro starts at $22 per user each month for one or two people when billed annually, and $15 when the workspace has three or more. The pricing page also shows higher monthly rates. Asterly’s hypothesis is $12 or ₹999, with no annual commitment and no product you can buy today.

What about blurring secrets?

Tango includes screenshot blurring on Pro and automatic PII detection on Enterprise. Asterly does not ship automatic redaction in the first hosted version. Do not treat a shared link as a redaction tool.
